Welcome to Bayreuth (Bayreuth Tourism)

The largest town of Upper Franconia is grown historically as margravial residence and world-famous by the Richard Wagner festival, a modern economy, convention and university town on the way to the high tech center of the region today. Bayreuth's sights, its museums and its various cultural offer promise eventful days throughout the whole year.


Cultural variety
With the margravial opera house Bayreuth offers the probably most beautiful preserved baroque theater in Europe. It belongs to the UNESCO world cultural heritage since 2012. Charming castles, the historical park hermitage with its dreamy grottos and water games and the festival theater with his unique acoustics expect the visitor as well as a variety of interesting museums. Numerous music and theater festivals offer cultural pleasure on the highest standard.


Leisure facilities of the top class
Bayreuth has leisure facilities of the top class at its disposal, so for example the pleasure oasis Lohengrin thermal spring in an immediate neighborhood to the hermitage and to a 18 hole golf course. Neat hotels and inns load to relax and to forget the weekday. Franconian and international restaurants provide variety and palate joys.


Attractive surrounding countryside, best international connections
As a gate to the counter tele-mountains and to romantic Franconian Switzerland Bayreuth can well and fast be reached by the car via motorways A 9 and A 70. German airline Lufthansa provides best international connections with schedule flight connections via Nuremberg Airport. Railway company Deutsche Bahn connects Bayreuth via the Franconia Saxony magistral with Nuremberg in hour intervals. In addition, the town maintains an efficient regional airfield.


Information exhibition at the margravial opera house opened
The world heritage information center at the margravial opera house Bayreuth has opened its gates. The opening hours are daily from April until September from 9 AM-6 PM and from October until March from 10 AM - 4 PM.

Afrika in Bayreuth (Offered and performed by Iwalewahaus, Bayreuth)

The unusual city guide leads you to historical and contemporary points of contact with Africa and shows international entanglements. Three young University of Bayreuth scholars - Gilbert Ndi Shang, Peter Narh and Katharina Fink from Cameroon, Ghana and Germany respectively – guide you through the Bayreuth city center, open up new perspectives on urban space and urban history and provide insight into the international life in Bayreuth.

Tour 2: In the footsteps of famous Bayreuthers

Each year the Richard Wagner Festival attracts thousands of national and international opera fans to Bayreuth. The Margravial Opera House was built by Margravine Wilhelmine and is considered to be the most beautifully preserved baroque opera house in Europe. In 2012 it became one of the German UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Also, Jean Paul, the German poet rightfully raved about the Bayreuth beer. This and much more is narrated by a competent tour guide in a special tour of the city.

Tour 3: Maisel's Brewery and Cooperage - most extensive brewery museum in the world

As the largest beer museum in the world, this museum is in the Guinness Book of World Records. Marvel at the numerous pitchers and jugs in this large collection of beer glasses. In the old brewery building, it looks like the brewmasters only just stepped out for their lunch break.

Tour 4: Bayreuth’s enchanting Gardens and stately Parks

Bayreuth has thrilled many guests with it’s great floral arrangements and beautiful parks. The park at the Festspielhaus, the Zoo Röhrensee, the Erermitage Museum and the Palace Garden Fantaisie are oases of calm for everyone in the city. Or take a trip to the rock garden Sanspareil! The number of gardens that can be visited, is determined by the time available.

Tour 5: Hike on the Brewery Path (Brauereiweg) of Waischenfeld Aufseß with Franconian lunch

In the morning you start to a beautiful hike through Franconian Switzerland. The walk starts in Weiglathal and follows the familiar Bierquellenweg (Brewery Path). Experience Franconian hospitality, hearty beer and culinary delights and wonderful landscape. With your tour guide you make a stop at the brewery Künzdörfer and then walk back. For the walk each about 40-45 minutes to and from work are planned.

Costs: The prices for the bus rental ride ranges between 250-300 EUR pls VAT and has to be divided amongst the group participants. Therefore tehre should be a minimum of 15 participants. The group rate for the guide is 144,00 €, (up to 4 hours, thereafter 27,00 € per additional hour). One guide can lead up to 30 people . The costs for lunch and drinks ranges between 10-15 EUR/person.
